Gilcrux Springs Trout Farm

Moorforge Viking Settlement
Moorforge is a Viking heritage discovery settlement, currently in development, focusing on life in the 10th century. Workshops and events at Moorforge are popular, with Blacksmithing (forged knife making) and Early Medieval Cooking workshops, and larger day long events and mini-festivals.
St Mary’s Church
St. Mary’s church sits atop of a mound in the centre of the village. The church dates back to Norman times and was renovated in the late 13th century. The church has an Anglo-Danish Norse cross on its roof and contains a glass altar screen of Leonardo da Vinci’s painting of The Last Supper. Telephone 016972 42337

The Gilcrux Community Archive celebrates the rich history of this small Cumbrian parish. What began with one parishioner’s notes has grown into a collection of stories, photographs and documents that capture the everyday lives often missing from official history. A living archive for residents, descendants, historians and anyone with an interest in Gilcrux, it continues to grow with the community.
